Biofuel Rocket Launch Is a First In Aerospace

With one rocket launch, aerospace startup bluShift just achieved two firsts.
Not only was its Stardust 1.0 the first rocket to lift off from the startup s home state of Maine, but it was also the first commercial rocket
anywhere to get its power from a biofuel.
Now that the startup has proven that its biofuel rocket can fly, a future of more sustainable space flight could be just on the horizon.
What Is Biofuel?
It takes a lot of thrust to send a rocket hurtling toward space, and most rockets generate that power by burning fossil fuels. That means that every time SpaceX or NASA sends a rocket into space, they re also pumping more carbon emissions into the atmosphere. ....

Watch Footage From Maine's First Commercial Rocket Launch

Over the weekend, a first in rocketry successfully took off from northern Maine.
On Sunday, bluShift Aerospace out of Brunswick, launched their Stardust Gen.1 rocket. Liftoff took place at Loring Commerce Centre, in Limestone. The rocket is the first in the world to be powered by bio-derived fuel. The company says the non-toxic biofuel can be cheaply soured from farms, and is carbon-neutral. The launch also marked Maine s first commercial rocket launch. The company hopes to establish a space port here in Maine.
During a livestream back on Jan. 15, bluShift Aerospace said they re in a bit of a space race with Nova Scotia. Launching sites for polar orbital satellites needs to be near a coastal area with a southern ocean overflight area, making Maine (or Nova Scotia) a perfect location. ....

Maine company successfully launches prototype biofuel rocket

A prototype rocket from the US that s powered by biofuel passed its first major test flight on Sunday.
The rocket, called Stardust 1.0, was developed by a firm called BluShift Aerospace, which is based in Brunswick in Maine.
The 20-foot (six metre) prototype rocket reached an altitude of just over 4,000 feet (1,219 metres) during its maiden run, which was designed to test the rocket s propulsion and control systems.
Video footage shows Stardust 1.0 blasting off from the former Loring Air Force Base in the northern Maine town of Limestone, marking the state s first commercial rocket launch.
Stardust 1.0 was powered by nontoxic fuel that BluShift s CEO claims is so harmless he could give it to one [his] daughters without it having any adverse effects.  ....
