Big M Presents A Showcase Of Qualifiers | Standardbred Canada

The Meadowlands will again host some of the sport’s top prospects, but this time with an expanded roster of stakes talent hitting the track.
A 16-qualifier session on Saturday morning (April 24) begins with three-year-old trotting fillies, with $400,000 yearling and full-sister to The Ice Dutchess, The Ice Countess ($2,500, 1:56.3M), going to post. Todd McCarthy will steer the Tony Alagna trainee as she makes just the fourth start of her career. She’ll be followed in the next qualifier by several other prominent Hambletonian Oaks eligible including Hello I Love You ($105,987, 1:54.2M), Illuminata ($131,933, 1:54.4F) and Pub Crawl ($225,725, 1:53.4M).
Breeders Crown elimination winner and final runner-up In Range ($411,003, 1:54.1S) returns to the track in the third qualifier against Peter Haughton winner Zenith Stride ($226,168, 1:53.2M), who will go his second qualifying mile of the year. Tim Tetrick steers In Range for trainer Marcus Melander, while Brian Sears will handle the reins of Zenith Stride for conditioner Mark Harder.

Change In Plans For Warrawee Vital | Standardbred Canada

With the start of stakes season on the horizon and a number of curveballs thrown at the connections of Warrawee Vital, the four-year-old stallion will return to the racetrack this Saturday (April 24) at The Meadowlands. The location for that qualifier has prompted a change in stud duty.
According to co-owner Blair Corbeil, the connections behind Warrawee Vital made the difficult decision to curtail the pacer's previously planned stallion duties. The timing for qualifying is on target and in line with what was envisioned at the start of the season, but the location for that qualifier is not.
"Everything kind of changed when they cancelled the Confederation Cup and added that extra Graduate stake before they raced at Mohawk," Corbeil told

Top Trotters At Freehold Friday | Standardbred Canada

The 11-race card at Freehold Raceway on Friday (April 23) features both the stars of yesterday and of today. The program includes a prep for the Lady Suffolk, as well as a stacked renewal of the Preferred Handicap Trot.
The Lady Suffolk Prep drew a field of six three-year-old trotting fillies, and is scheduled as the third race on the card, with a post time of about 1:10 p.m. (EDT). Ron Burke sends out a pair in here including Hot As Hill, the winner of two legs of the Kindergarten series last fall at the Meadowlands. She qualified at Freehold last week, trotting the mile in 1:59.1. Her uncoupled stablemate, The Queen B, finished third last week in a conditioned trot at Freehold, and was sixth in the Kindergarten final last year.
