Concerns postal votes in County Durham may not be counted due to printing error

Concerns have been raised about postal voting in County Durham
CONCERNS have been raised over whether some postal votes in Thursday’s council elections across County Durham will be included in the count.
A production and distribution error with printers means there were delays in postal ballots being delivered to some areas of the county.
Council bosses have been in touch with the printers, distributors and postal services to find out the cause of the delay.
North Durham MP Kevan Jones said: “It is widespread, and they acknowledge it has happened.
“As I understand it, it is a printing error.

Rookhope Arch, Co Durham: 'A forgotten doorway to another world'

Has a system designed to remove poisonous gases ever looked so graceful as the one at Rookhope?
Like a forgotten doorway to another world, this small ruin has become an icon for the village of Rookhope. At Lintzgarth, just up the valley, the Rookhope Arch is one of few remnants of a two-mile flue that ran horizontally over the ground rising into the high moors, carrying poisonous gases from the village’s lead-smelting works.

Jazz musician from Rookhope to release his first EP | Darlington and Stockton Times

A RETIRED police officer is trying his hand at a new career with his long-time passion for music.
William Cline Bailey has used the time in lockdown to channel his music passion into an EP, using the themes of lockdown such as isolation and loneliness to create a relaxing jazz track.
Mr Bailey was introduced to music at an early age when he joined the choir at Zion Methodist Church, Freetown, Sierra Leone.
His love for music was developed in the choir whilst performing secular music.
Listening to soul, reggae and jazz funk also had a profound influence.
When he moved to Nigeria with his family, he was greatly influenced by Afro beat and began to consider the decision of becoming a musician.

10 of the best winter landscapes: readers' travel tips

Photograph: Sharon Pinner
Whatever direction snowstorms come from, they often seem to peter out before reaching Cambridgeshire. I savour the rare occurrence of a significant dollop of snow. A few years ago, I was able to enjoy the aftermath of one such occasion when running along an ancient track known as the Mare Way. This follows a ridge above the villages of Little and Great Eversden. The extensive views towards Cambridge on one side and Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire on the other were accentuated by hoar frost-encrusted trees and waves of white fields. Mesmeric. Still waiting for that magic combo to happen again!
