Its 0.4% gain to 6,613.75 comparing with a 0.5% decline in the S&P 500 by 4.30pm UK time. Engineering group Renishaw rallied 18.7% to £68.85 after it put itself up for sale following a decision by founders and major shareholders David McMurtry and John Deer to sell their stakes in the company.
