United states, has to agree on certain fundamental principles, and that is the bill of rights. That is basically freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, everyone agrees with that. If you go much beyond that, you have to be willing to compromise on all other positions, because you cannot have a functioning society unless people recognize they have differences, recognize that they do wish to live together, because of the fundamental things in which they agree.
