EVANSVILLE, Ind. Looking for their first new leader in more than 10 years, Vanderburgh County Republicans chose Mike Duckworth over Steve Ary Saturday by the narrow margin of 47-40. The election among GOP precinct committee members at Faithway Baptist Church brought out such party luminaries as Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, a Vanderburgh County resident, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and former Mayor Russ Lloyd Jr. Local Democrats, as they had known they would, chose party treasurer Cheryl Schultz on Saturday to lead them for the next four years. Schultz was the only candidate in a virtual meeting to succeed Edie Hardcastle, who served the remaining 20 months of former chairman Scott Danks term.
