“It’s quite a good field. There are a lot of hopes in that race on Saturday. “If he runs well we will decide whether we go to the Sistema or the Sires. He may be a champagne (listed, 1600m) horse, but we will just play it by ear.” Another Rogerson runner in line for a Group One assignment is talented but erratic filly Ezdara. The daughter of Sacred Falls was pulled up last start by jockey Jasmine Fawcett after veering wide ahead of the crossing after leading early. “She spotted the gap and wanted to run out,” Rogerson said.

G1 Randwick Guineas: Runner-by-runner preview and tips Aegon heads the betting for the Randwick Guineas Image: Getty Boom Kiwi gelding Aegon will look to keep his unbeaten record intact when he lines up in Saturday's Group One Randwick Guineas. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained galloper made an instant impact in Australia, winning the Hobartville Stakes in style at Rosehill. He'll face a strong field once again, including six of his rivals from the Hobartville. Take a look at the chances of every runner in the race + the suggested betting play SPEED MAP Tempo should be pretty solid. Marsannay will roll forward and look to hold the rail from barrier 1. Tim Clark will be positive from the outside draw aboard Peltzer to sit up on the speed. The likes of Harmony Rose, Lion's Roar and Here To Shock shouldn't be far away. Tactics aboard The Elanora and Prime Star will be interesting from out wide. The Elanora went back in the Hobartville over 1400m. Barrier 11 looks awkward for Prime Star and Jean Van Overmeire may ride for a bit of luck.

Robusto (inner) holds out Sound in the Avondale Cup at Ellerslie on Saturday. Rugged stayer Robusto ($39) upset the applecart when she produced a well-timed finish to deny Aussie raider Sound a victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Avondale Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained six-year-old shrugged off a disappointing run in the Wellington Cup (3200m) at her last start to thrust her name into Auckland Cup (3200m) contention as she overcame traffic problems in the home straight to claim her biggest career victory. Given a perfect run in the trail by rider Sam Collett, the daughter of Zed tracked Sound into the race on the home corner before shooting through on his inner at the 200m.
Training genius Murray Baker conceded he is surprised boom three-year-old Aegon has come up as favourite for his attempt to overcome a hoodoo on Kiwi three-year-olds in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens. Aegon, unbeaten in four New Zealand starts including the 2000 Guineas and Karaka Millions, is the $3.90 favourite against one of the strongest Hobartville fields for some years. But even Baker is unsure how Aegon will measure up against some of the best local three-year-olds in training. “Aegon is a pretty good young horse but he has to make the step up,’’ Baker told The Daily Telegraph from his Cambridge stable base. “It’s a bit harder in Australia than it is at home. This race is a bit of a learning curve but I hope he is up to it.’’
Icebath on track for return in the Triscay Stakes Posted by: Mediality Racing+ at 6:01pm on 12/2/2021 Brad Widdup says everything is on track for the return of progressive mare Icebath, who tackles the Triscay Stakes at Randwick. Icebath, who was just pipped in a thriller by Collette in the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at her final spring outing, will kick off her autumn campaign in the Group Three mares event over 1200 metres on Saturday. Widdup said everything had been “pretty straightforward” with the mare’s preparation, including two recent trials, and he was expecting her to give a good account first up.
