Kamal Haasan fails to make an impact in Tamil Nadu polls:- The results of the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu are out yesterday and DMK dethroned the ruling AIADMK in the state. Kamal Haasan floated his own party Makkal Needhi Maiam and he has been campaigning in the state from the past few months. He made his electoral debut in the recent Assembly polls and he contested from Coimbatore South. Kamal Haasan lost in the constituency by a margin of 1728 votes. When the trends emerged in the morning, Kamal Haasan was leading by a margin. His lead turned narrow and the actor turned politician lost in the polls. BJP s Vanathi Srinivasan won in the polls and she bagged 52,627 votes. Kamal had to settle with 51,087 votes. His party Makkal Needhi Maiam hardly made an impact in the polls. ....

Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan has won from Coimbatore South constituency with great difficulty. Kamal won with a tender margin of 72 votes. Kamal’s party went to polls with the party’s election symbol ‘Torch’. This was the first time Kamal Haasan has faced a direct election.
The MNM party had fielded 42 candidates of the total 234 Assembly seats. The party forged an alliance with the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi. However, none of the candidates of Kamal’s party and allies have won except Kamal.
Stalin’s DMK has swept the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. While ruling AIADMK did give a decent fight, it couldn’t withstand against Stalin’s surge. DMK won about 154 seats, AIADMK was restricted to 78 seats whereas MNM won 1 seat. ....
