SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A new vaccination site opened in Vista, bringing the possibility of vaccinating 500 more people every day. Leaders say it’s small vaccination sites like this that are important for helping different people in the community get vaccinated, which is key for the Latino community.
San Diego County data shows just 15% of people vaccinated as of mid-February are Latino, despite the fact that Latinos make up 34% of the population and more than half of the positive cases. ....

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Any other year, Sonia Highbaugh and her family would be spending Christmas gathered at her sister’s house, but in true 2020 fashion, things look a little different this holiday.
“I was sad this year not being able to spend the holidays with my extended family and everyone, but we make those hard decisions for the betterment of everybody,” said Highbaugh. “We actually stayed home, it’s just my immediate family, my boyfriend, and our two boys. We made videos of them opening their gifts so we can share with family so we can feel like we were together.” ....

Campaign by Latino coalition asks to avoid Christmas gatherings and get tested for COVID-19

The San Diego Latino Health Coalition has launched a campaign urging the Latino community to protect their families by staying home for Christmas and getting tested for COVID-19.
The “Con Orgullo” (With Pride) campaign focuses on communities that have been disproportionately affected in San Diego County and statewide.
Nearly 58 percent of COVID-19 cases and almost 49 percent of deaths in the county are among people of Latino descent, according to the county’s Health and Human Services Agency.
With the resurgence of cases that has led to the county returning to its most restrictive level of reopening and the arrival of the first vaccine doses, local groups within the coalition are asking the community not to let down its guard. ....
