A man and woman are accused of running funeral scams on numerous people. A long-time funeral director says she's encountered this pair before.
Dozens of people say they were victims of 26-year-old Javian Major and 38-year-old Sandy Broussard. The pair is accused of operating an unlicensed funeral business, stealing life insurance funds, charging for funerals and embalming that didn't happen, and mishandling bodies.
Prosecutors said there is probable cause to charge Javian Major with forgery. He’s accused of stealing $25,000 of insurance money from one family.
A district court judge ordered Javian Major not to contact the alleged victims of an unlicensed funeral business.
A daughter said she nearly missed her father’s funeral service after she started questioning whether the service director had a license.
