Anchor the suspect surrendered an hour ago after hiding in a backyard. It happened near lake mead and rampart. News 3 is live in summerland. Reporter one man is in custody after a fourhour standoff with police in a neighborhood that started with chaos and ended in a tense still. We have video from a viewer who lives in that neighborhoo it is a little grainy, but you can see Police Officers pulling their guns out. It was frantic police work at first. Here is what happened at 4 45 in the afternoon. Police got a call that a woman had been shot. When they arrived on scene there was a woman laying dead in the street in front of her home. They then realized the suspect was in the area armed with a gun. They tried to make an arrest. The suspect fled. He made it to a backyard where we were told by the police that the man likely had suicidal intentions. They brought in negotiators to deal with them. There is obviously a fear that he would raise his arms against officers in what we call suicide
