Consumers set to spend more online this Ramadan: Survey

April 13, 2021

RIYADH — A new survey from Checkout.com — a leading global payment solution provider — suggests there will be an even greater surge in online shopping during the upcoming Ramadan period.
Going into the holy month, consumers in Saudi Arabia have noted a strong inclination towards online shopping. 95 percent of those surveyed say that they shop online, with one in four doing so weekly or even daily — up from 20 percent in September 2020.
That is largely consistent with an earlier Checkout.com report indicating that consumers’ embrace of online shopping is more of a long-term behavior change rather than a temporary shift resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

GENEVA — A report released on Monday by the body dedicated to freeing the world of chemical weapons, concludes that there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that a Syrian military helicopter carried out a chemical attack on the town of Saraqib, in 2018.
The UN-backed international Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) released the findings of the second report by its Investigation and Identification Team (IIT), saying that “at least one cylinder” of deadly chlorine gas had been dropped on the night of Feb. 4, spreading “over a large area” and affecting at least 12 Syrians on the ground.

VIENNA — The growing complexities of the world drug problem are hampering efforts to achieve sustainable development by the end of the decade: a situation which the COVID-19 pandemic has only compounded, the executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said on Monday.
Ghada Waly was addressing the opening of the latest session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), the agency’s governing body, taking place this week in-person and online from Vienna.
