WHA’s president outlines plans to improve treatments for patients with hepatitis
Danjuma Adda, a Nigerian public health expert, became the president-elect of the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) in November last year. He is the first African to hold the position.
Having been infected and lost his mother to hepatitis B, Adda s personal experience has fueled his passion and drive for a paradigm shift in fighting the liver disease, which the WHO estimates affects 60 million Africans.
In an interview with
SciDev.Net, he outlined his plans to increase evidence-based research to improve treatments for patients with hepatitis, and investment commitments by African governments that will drive efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis. ....

Global Science Journalism Survey 2021


We invite science journalists around the globe to participate of the Global Science Journalism Survey 2021.
Our objective is to examine science journalism around the world, considering journalists background, workload, and opinions on science journalism and work environment.
We also aim to evaluate whether Covid-19 has been impacting science journalists around the globe.
This online survey was designed by the London School of Economics (UK), SciDev.Net, the Brazilian Institute of Public Communication of Science, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Brazil) and the ISCTE-IUL (Portugal).
The World Federation of Science Journalists is a partner of this initiative.

MANILA: Lost in the unending stream of news about the COVID-19 pandemic is the recent report that Singapore has just approved lab-grown meat for human consumption.
The approval was granted by the Singapore Food Agency to US food company Eat Just for their cultured ‘chicken bites’.  The company called this a watershed moment for the future of meat.
Meat consumption is a major factor contributing to climate change and world pollution, according to the UN. The development of cultured meat, therefore, bodes well for environmentalists and everyone concerned about saving our planet from the ravages dealt by climate change. ....
