Still impacted by heat alerts. that includes los angeles. triple-digit heat for many the locations just away from the coastline. look at bakersfield, 110 degrees. this heat wave is going to peak at the worst possible moment when everybody wants to be outside celebrating labor day. remember, this is an extended holiday weekend. now the heat builds as we look toward the upper midwest. billings, montana. boise, idaho. triple-digit heat for you as well. thanks so much, cnn meteorologist derek van dam, appreciate it. it ultimately wasn t wither that scrapped the artemis 1 launch saturday, it was another hydrogen leak. a new launch date could be weeks away or longer. cnn krista fisher looks at what went wrong. reporter: a second scrub, a second hydrogen leak. this leak much bigger than what nasa encountered monday. they can either fix it on the launch pad or they can roll the entire rocket all the way back ....

Roll the rocket back to the vab regardless because of a safety violation with the range. the range is run by the u.s. space force, and nasa says they re going to try to ask for an extension or a waiver to that safety violation. but as of now they just don t know if they ll get it. so what this means in terms of timing is that there is no way that nasa is going to be able to launch by the end of this launch window, which ends on tuesday. so that means the next launch attempt of the artemis rocket likely will not be until the end of september at the earliest. more likely mid to late october, if not later. here is nasa s associate administrator jim free speaking at a press conference moments after that second scrub was announced. we don t go into the tests lightly. we don t just say, hey, we think, we hope this is going to work. the confidence to do another launch attempt today was born out of the fact that we understood the hydrogen leaks that we had on monday. ....

Earliest but more like ly sometime in mid to late october. here is nasa s associate administrator speaking at the press conference just a few hours after the second scrub was announced. we don t go into the tests lightly. we don t say we think, we hope, this is going to work. the confidence to do another launch attempt was born out of the fact we understood the hydrogen leaks we had on monday. different in the leak we had today in terms of scale. today was a different signature. we were confident coming into today. we re not going to launch until we re ready. reporter: bill nelson was also at that press conference and he pointed out that the cost of two scrubs is less than the cost of one failure. so, to be very clear, nasa is ....
