The latest Covid-19 relief package is finally coming to fruition in the US. The US House of Representatives passed the Biden administration’s $1.9 trillion bill Wednesday, as Democratic leaders won enough backing to pass the legislation onto the president to sign into law. While later versions of the bill altered Joe Biden’s original vision for the package, the remaining billions of dollars in economic relief are still a coup for US progressives.
That’s not just because concessions Democrats made to party moderates to pass the bill were arguably on the margins. The spending measures are also sweeping relative to Covid-19 relief measures in other developed economies, and they far exceed US relief measures from the last economic crisis. This chart shows where US Covid-19 relief spending falls relative to other major economies before the latest bill. With the $1.9 trillion added in, the US’s total pandemic relief spending will rise to 27.1% of GDP according to the Centre for Economic Policy Research, making the US the third highest spender globally.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Dozens of viewers have reached out to the I-Team with problems getting the second round of stimulus money.
From missing stimulus payments to money coming through unexpected methods, here are answers for frustrated anyone who desperately needs this financial lifeline.
"I can't pay the bills that I need to pay. Everything is behind," said Ursula Haskell of Calumet Heights. "I got the very first check. The second stimulus check was sent into a closed account."
Haskell said the second stimulus deposit went into an account she was forced to close due to civil unrest over the summer. She said she's been calling and going online, but has been unable to get her new bank account information to the IRS.

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham Mayor Steve Schewel is part of a cross-country team of mayors striving to help people through the COVID-19 pandemic with an idea that's gaining traction in economic circles: a guaranteed income.
The Mayors for a Guaranteed Income penned a letter to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris asking the future leaders to pass stimulus checks until the economy recovers from the pandemic. Schewel is one of 33 mayors in the coalition proposing an income floor that they feel would "help communities and families thrive again."
"Mayors across the country agree," Schewel said in a tweet Friday. "One more check isn't enough. Recurring payments until the economy recovers will best help those who have been so deeply affected by this crisis."

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The ABC7 I-Team has heard from numerous people who said they are waiting for both their tax refund and stimulus check, who filed their taxes around this time last year. Many wonder if the delay in their tax refund is contributing to their wait for the second stimulus check.
"Still no money; I can't get ahold of them. I called, and called, and called," said Alicia Farris of Elgin, Illinois.
Farris is waiting on $2,965 after filing in January of 2020.
"Almost $3,000; money that can go towards bills, our animals, our children in school. My internet was shut off," she said.

On your 2020 tax return, your form 1040, there's a new box that's going to let you enter what you were paid and if it was below what you should have been paid, it's going to let you reconcile that on the 2020 return. So, rather than getting a stimulus check, you'll get a credit on your tax return which could either increase your refund amount or decrease any amounts owed. What if you didn't receive a stimulus payment at all? If you didn't receive a stimulus payment at all, and you're eligible based on your adjusted gross income for 2020, you can just enter the amount in there and you'll get the credit."

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Issues with the second round of stimulus checks continue to pop up as some people are now learning they will not receive money this time around.
There is an important distinction to make though.
According to the IRS website, those who got money last time, but are now getting a message that says the stimulus is ânot availableâ this time can still get the stimulus money. The issue is they will have to wait when many people need help now.
