LAHORE: Dozens of students staging a protest demonstration Monday demanded cancellation of Cambridge’s O and A level examinations in Pakistan.
The students gathered outside the Punjab Assembly, at Chairing Cross on The Mall, and shouted slogans demanding cancellation of the examinations in the wake of alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. The protest also caused a traffic mess on The Mall and adjacent roads for quite some time.
In the late evening, Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz also held a dialogue with some of the protesting students and assured of taking up the issue at the NCOC meeting today (Tuesday). After successful talks, the students dispersed. ....

Taiwanese prosecutors have identified a construction site manager whose lorry is suspected of causing a train crash, which has killed at least 51 people and left more than 156 injured.

Taiwanese prosecutors have sought an arrest warrant for a construction site manager whose truck is believed to have caused a train accident that killed at least 50 people, as authorities warned on Saturday more bodies could be found in the wreckage.
Friday’s crash, Taiwan’s worst rail accident in seven decades, occurred after an express train hit a truck that had slid down a bank next to the track from a construction site. The manager of the construction site is suspected of having failed to engage the brake properly. ....

Central Queensland’s booming resources and energy industry has numerous jobs waiting to be filled by competent, enthusiastic locals keen to secure employment.
Queensland Resources Council (QRC) chief executive Ian Macfarlane said across the state there were more than 1000 jobs the Queensland resources and energy sector was looking to fill.
In Central Queensland alone there are currently 84 vacant positions on Seek in Rockhampton, the Capricorn Coast and Gladstone.
Mr Macfarlane said Queensland’s resources sector supported more than 420,000 jobs across the state, and despite COVID-19, international market conditions and commodity price fluctuations the sector was continuing to hire staff. ....

MANSEHRA: The people of Oghi tehsil on Tuesday said that they were being deprived of wheat flour being sold at the subsidised price of Rs860 per 20kg bag by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
“Though the Pakhtunkhwa government claims to supply enough wheat flour at the specified outlets in Oghi and rest of the province, we have been experiencing its shortage since the start of the programme early this year,” Liaqat Zaman, a local told reporters in Oghi.
A group of locals led by Zaman said that the flour mills were being supplied with subsidised wheat for grinding and supplying it to specified sale points to sell a 20kg bag at the price of Rs860 but people were deprived of it. ....
