University of Johannesburg Inaugurates Centre To Teach Chinese Medicine

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – South Africa’s University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Monday inaugurated the Acupuncture Centre and Museum in collaboration with Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The Acupuncture Centre and Museum was first conceptualised a few years ago, with renovations and design commencing in 2019.
The UJ Dean of Faculty of Health Science, Sehaam Khan, welcomed the opening of the centre, saying the centre would provide access to the Chinese traditional medicine, serve as a resource to students and the general public.
“Last year we began offering the Bachelor of Complementary Medicine, which is a four-year qualification.
“As part of this revised curriculum, acupuncture and phytotherapy is included to introduce our students to a broader range of holistic and traditional medicines.

South Africa's University of Johannesburg launched a center in cooperation with Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Monday to teach traditional Chinese remedies.
The center, called the Acupuncture Centre and Museum, has a teaching clinic and a museum. It was first conceptualized a few years ago, with renovations and design commencing in 2019.
The teaching clinic consists of 10 consultation rooms and 20 beds, which serve as the clinical teaching base and research facility where the training of clinical and research skills by students will take place.

What are antibodies and what is their function?
When a virus infects a host, it invades the host cells and replicates (makes copies of itself). One way that our immune system protects us is to remove the virus from the body before it gets the chance to infect a cell. The immune system has cells called B lymphocytes which make proteins called antibodies.
