Bill to reform Iowa AEAs facing uncertain future
Advocates told Linn County legislators at a forum Saturday that the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students are not being met by area education agencies. Twelve lawmakers, including Democrats and Republicans, attended the forum where 30 people shared their personal stories about Iowa’s AEAs.
These days, with political campaigns that seem to go on forever, Iowans may not recognize the significance of what occurred at polling places across the state on November 5, 1968.
Republican Rep. Skyler Wheeler of Hull, chair of the House Education Committee, made his comments in a Facebook post published the day after legislators heard from dozens of Iowans about how the bill would affect students, families and educators.
