A father was arrested for smacking his six-year-old daughter so hard he left bruises – because she would not go to bed.
The offence happened before the change in the law which banned smacking, but Sheriff Graham Buchanan said the man’s actions went “considerably over the score” at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The dad, who is not being named to avoid identifying the child, pled guilty to a charge of assault to injury over the incident, which happened on May 22. ....

A father has been handed unpaid work after smacking his six-year-old daughter so hard he left bruises – because she wouldn’t go to bed.
The offence happened before the change in the law which banned smacking, but Sheriff Graham Buchanan said the man’s actions went “considerably over the score”.
The male, 36, who is not being named to avoid identifying the child, pled guilty to a charge of assault to injury over the incident, which happened on May 22.

A man has admitted making nuisance calls to the emergency services just days after being convicted of the same offence.
Last week Laurence Galvin was told he was on his “last chance” for dialling 999 after burning his steak, falling out of bed and his heating not working.
The 58-year-old was handed a supervision order after making a series of calls between September and December this year.
Galvin appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for a second time and pled guilty to a charge stating that for the purposes of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to members of the Scottish Ambulance Service he repeatedly contacted them in the absence of a genuine emergency on December 28. ....

A “weird” north-east pervert who sent vile sexual images to girls as young as 10 has been jailed.
Callum Findlay, who was caught after a mum posed as a 14-year-old girl on Snapchat to help snare him, was sentenced by Sheriff Graham Buchanan who deemed the offences too serious to be dealt with any other way.
The 27-year-old had used Snapchat to take sexual images of himself which he then “fired off in all directions”.
Findlay, whose address was given in court papers as Forest Park in Stonehaven, previously pled guilty to six charges. ....
