Officials from the Coconino National Forest and city of Flagstaff are collaborating on a project to fix a critical piece of water infrastructure.The Inner Basin water pipeline funnels 2 million to 4 million gallons to the city from the San Francisco Peaks each day and was damaged by the effects of last year’s Pipeline Fire.
The Pipeline Fire burning on the Coconino National Forest north of Flagstaff is now 50% at just over 26,000 acres. Fire managers say the first significant rainfall of the monsoon Saturday helped minimize its spread. They Haywire Fire is now 40% contained.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (KPNX) — Evacuations have been ordered for communities near the Pipeline Fire, burning north of Flagstaff since Saturday, June 12.
In a statement Thursday night, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said deputies have conducted preliminary evaluations of the burn area. Current evacuation orders remain in place until further notice. County officials have deemed it unsafe to allow residents back into the evacuated area at this time.
Fire crews will battle high winds today as they continue to make progress on the Tunnel Fire burning northeast of Flagstaff. The National Weather Service is calling for gusts in excess of 60 mph at times.
