Three years ago, about twenty workers were fired at General Motors in Silao, Mexico, for organizing to drive out a gangster-ridden union and for supporting the U.S. national strike at GM. The AFL-CIO’s Solidarity Center then intervened with bribes to break apart their rank-and-file group and impose a so-called “independent union” that betrayed and abandoned them.
