Former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, had advocated for the concept of 'one nation, one election' in 2018. He emphasized the need for debate and consensus among political parties on simultaneous polls as frequent elections negatively impact the economy and development. "During the last few decades, due to frequent elections being held in some part of the country or the other, the pace and continuity of development programmes have been impacted," he had said.
