Non-healthcare workers who “jumped” the queue and got vaccinated did not commit “widespread fraud”.
This is according to the Western Cape head of health, Dr Keith Cloete, who addressed the outrage over reports of non-healthcare workers receiving the Covid-19 jabs this week.
On social media, poet Lebo Mashile and a technology and motoring journalist were among those accused of “jumping the queue”, after they shared that they had been vaccinated. ....

Health head notes 'worrying' attempts to jump Covid-19 vaccination queue

Please wait for your turn and don t try to jump the Covid-19 vaccination queue.
That was the message from Dr Keith Cloete, head of health in the Western Cape, who said on Thursday there had been “worrying and unfortunate” incidents of people who did not meet the criteria gaming the system under which health sector workers were vaccinated in the Sisonke programme.
Cloete said the Sisonke programme had “widened its criteria” for eligibility but it still only applied to those in the health sector. The vaccine is being rolled out to people over the age of 60 on Monday. ....

Today, the Sisonke trial that uses Johnson & Johnson s Covid-19 vaccine will resume after it was temporarily stopped due to rare blood clot disorders recorded among eight people in the US.
In SA, about 300,000 health workers have been inoculated with the J&J jab and none of the blood clots that were recorded in the US happened here, likely because the occurrence is so rare.

Prof Glenda Gray, co-principal investigator of the Sisonke implementation study, which is providing health-care workers with Covid-19 J&J vaccines, said on Monday morning the suspension of the inoculations is expected to be lifted soon.
The vaccinations were paused by the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) on Tuesday night last week, the same day the US Food and Drug Administration paused its J&J rollout because of extremely rare and severe blood clots detected in six out of 6.8 million Americans vaccinated. ....
