CHEYENNE – Alta Vista Elementary School was recognized by Solution Tree as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work during a surprise all-school assembly on Thursday.
Today, if the schedule holds, the Arkansas Legislative Council will meet to approve (or not) Solution Tree's new contract. You'll recognize the name--Solution Tree--from all the Arkansas-based reporting about that outfit in the last week. Millions of your tax dollars have been going to the Indiana firm, and millions more might, even though a just-released report by the University of Arkansas' education researchers show no statistical significant results in student achievement.
Smear cannot pass
In August 2017, Solution Tree Inc., a private vendor based in Bloomington, Ind., which self-describes as "one of the leading K-12 education companies ... offer[ing] professional development, online courses, and education books for teachers," was awarded a no-bid contract for $4 million by the Arkansas Department of Education.
An audit of a professional development firm and its multimillion-dollar work for the state hasn't yet been sent to the lawmakers who requested it in February, even as the Indiana-based company appears poised to be awarded another contract at the end of the month.
