PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man was arrested Thursday on multiple charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny, and possession with intent to distribute, the Parkersburg Police Department announced Friday via Facebook post. The post said Andrew James Caplinger, 30, of Parkersburg, was arrested and charged with seven counts of breaking and entering, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of possession with intent to deliver marijuana. The department had received multiple reports of breaking and entering in businesses in south Parkersburg, the post said. Upon examination of video surveillance and evidence at each scene, detectives determined that the crimes were likely committed by the same person. The post said a detective observed a subject in the area of Camden Avenue and Broadway Avenue Thursday morning. The subject matched the description of the suspect. The subject was stopped and identified as Caplinger. Caplinger was taken in custody and brought to the Parkersburg Police Department. The post also said Caplinger agreed to speak to detectives and admitted his involvement in breaking into several businesses recently. The police department took reports of the following instances which Caplinger admitted his involvement: ¯ The forced entry of a business in the 1900 block of Pike Street on or about May 4, 2023, where multiple tools were stolen with a value over $1,000. ¯ The forced entry of a business in the 400 block of Rayon Drive on or about Sept. 23, 2023, where multiple tools were stolen with a value over $1,000. ¯ The forced entry of a business in the 1900 block of Pike Street on or about Dec. 24 where multiple items were stolen with a value over $1,000. ¯ The forced entry of a business in the 400 block of Rayon Drive on or about Dec. 30. ¯ The forced entry of a box trailer on the lot of a business in the 2400 block of Gihon Road on or about Jan. 1. ¯ The forced entry of a business in the 1500 block of Blizzard Drive on or about Jan. 2 where a cell phone and a small amount of cash were stolen. ¯ The forced entry of two office trailers at Southwood Park belonging to a construction company on or about Jan. 2 where electronic devices, tools, and clothing were stolen. Caplinger was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court where bond was set at $55,000. He failed to post bond and was placed in the Wood County Holding Center.
