Alexander Graham Bell, a Scotsman, a man of thrift, well-intentioned and thoughtful, invented the telephone in 1876. He also co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885 to insure that we would all enjoy both the privilege and the experience of talking to others without looking them in the eye. From time to time I wish Mr. Bell would return to see what he had wrought. We can all appreciate the telephone and the reason behind it.
