Country Bank provides $1.3 million in donations to more than 400 community organizations in Central, Western Massachusetts Updated Feb 03, 2021; Throughout 2020, Country Bank provided $1.3 million in donations to more than 400 organizations across Massachusetts to help in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. The company donated more than $500,000 to area hospitals and first responder housing efforts. More than $100,000 was provided to food programs across the state, including Friends of the Homeless, Rachel’s Table and The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Other organizations receiving support included the Quaboag Valley Community Development Corporation, Christina’s House, The Springfield Rescue Mission, Ronald McDonald House and Behavioral Health Network, Inc. ....
Banks, Credit Unions Ramp Up Philanthropy During Difficult Year Checking on the Community Paul Scully says much of Country Bank’s philanthropy in 2020 was directed at “COVID-related initiatives.” Paul Scully says local philanthropy is baked into the DNA of this region’s financial institutions. “Banks have always been great about supporting communities. And we are fairly philanthropic,” Country Bank’s president and CEO added, noting that the bank gave $1.3 million to local nonprofits last year, touching about 400 different organizations in some way. Those numbers aren’t atypical. What made 2020 slightly different is where that money went. “Of that, about a half-million went to what I would call COVID-related initiatives,” Scully said, citing causes ranging from equipping frontline workers at hospitals to meeting soaring demand at local food banks due to the pandemic’s economic impact on families. ....

Springfield Rescue Mission cancels meal, toy distributions Updated Dec 21, 2020; SPRINGFIELD Citing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, the Springfield Rescue Mission has canceled a meal pickup and toy distribution event planned for Wednesday, Dec. 23. “We appreciate your patience and understanding during this uncertain time of COVID-19 and we pray for the health and safety of those in our local area and for those throughout the world,” the organization said in a statement. The organization is suspending its normal operations until Jan. 4, 2021. No clothing or food donations will be accepted until after that date.
