GM Defense has a $214-million contract with the US Army to build 639 Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISVs), and all of them are diesel-powered. However, the company has created a one-off ISV which it calls the All Electric Concept Vehicle and it could preview the way forward for light military vehicles. The ISV is mechanically related to the Chevrolet Colorado pickup, using around 90 percent off-the-shelf components, including its 2.8-liter Duramax diesel that is strong, reliable and relatively fuel-efficient. ....

DuMont, from Raytheon Intelligence & Space, a business of Raytheon Technologies, is joining GM Defense as it prepares to begin manufacturing its Infantry Squad Vehicle, a light and agile all-terrain troop carrier to fulfill a $214.3 million U.S. Army contract the first major defense contract for GM Defense since its 2017 inception. GM Defense will manufacture 649 Infantry Squad Vehicles, based on the Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup, for the five-year contract. It will support additional production of up to 2,065 vehicles if authorized over an eight-year period. ....

Recently, it doubled down on the military market by partnering with Korean armored vehicle maker Hanwha to compete for the Army’s Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle. But today, it’s famous for trucks. Tens of thousands of Oshkosh trucks dominate Army and Marine Corps motor pools, from ultra-heavy tank transporters to the 4×4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, the mine-resistant vehicle for frontline units. “Oshkosh Defense is really unique,” said John Bryant, president of Oshkosh Defense, in an interview. “We’re really the only US tactical wheeled vehicle provider that has the entire portfolio of vehicles, from the heaviest, the Heavy Equipment Transporter, down to, of course, the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.” ....
