Jeff may first, 2012the height of the occupy Oakland Movement and tensions were running high. A culture of protest and frenzy had swept over the city and demonstrations expressing frustration and anger were commonplace. Things were coming to a head in oakland and protestors were using the first of may to continue their expression through violence and property destruction. It was a dark time but it was also a defining time in oaklands history. Mayor libby schaff remembers that time and says things are a little different and she says that organizers have told her that the may day events will be peaceful. But, that has been said before and things spun out of controlpolice were attackedproperty was destroyedthe peaceful events hijacked by those intent on chaos and anarchy for the sake of chaos and anarchy.
