Mayor: City came together to face COVID-19 challenges RICHMOND, Ind. COVID-19 brought continuing challenges to Richmond. The coronavirus has impacted city government as well as residents, and Mayor Dave Snow spoke about COVID-19 challenges during his State of the City address Thursday. “COVID-19 has brought with it a seismic shift to our local economy, a dramatic change in how we gather and move about our day and has taken a toll on our physical and mental health as a community,” he said during the address from the Whitewater Community Television studios on the Indiana University East campus. ► Positively, COVID-19 called individuals and organizations to help others, but negatively, loved ones have died because of the coronavirus. The Richmond Farmers Market returns Saturday to Jack Elstro Plaza, and it s expected to be bigger and better than ever. Farmers Market staff expects more vendors and customers as the summer market opens from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday after spending the winter inside the Starr Gennett Building, according to a news release. New vendors have joined familiar vendors in registering for the market. The past year has certainly shown us that it s more important than ever to support our local businesses, said Caleb Smith, the market s coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department. We re so excited to return to our home at Elstro Plaza, and hope that everyone will make the time to get out and support our local farmers and makers. ....
