Grant County commissioners took up a number of significant topics besides the fate of the Gila River diversion group at their work session and regular meetings this week, including approving unanimously Thursday an agreement
that District 3 Commissioner Alicia Edwards said may lead to an “unnamed, but likely to be a Starbucks” coffee shop or fast-food restaurant being built in the parking lot of the county-owned Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center.
Commissioners set the stage for the sale of county property located at 3031 U.S. 180 E. a piece of the parking lot on the northwest corner of the intersection of U.S. 180 and the 32nd Street Bypass to KWTHEM, LLC, a company that specializes in brokering property deals for fast-food chains like Taco Bell and the internationally ubiquitous coffee chain ....

Economic development group looks to county for funding

The Grant County Commission heard a couple of presentations about public health and economic development during its work session Tuesday morning.
The first came from the Grant County Community Health Council’s Emerging Infectious Diseases Task Force, represented by Jeff Fell, the town of Silver City’s emergency manager, and Renee Despres.
Despres started with COVID-19 numbers for the county. 
“This data is for November 17 to November 30, so I can’t tell you what our positivity rate is here right now,” she said. “We’re testing pretty well compared to other counties in the state, but we still haven’t met the gating criteria of 5 percent of tests being positive. ....
