During their biweekly press update Wednesday, state health officials touted New Mexico’s successful COVID-19 vaccination program, and confirmed that there are no plans at the state level for a “vaccine passport” program to give vaccinated individuals access to less restrictive public health measures and more activities.
“We don’t have any kind of plan for vaccine passports,” said Human Services Secretary Dr. David Scrase. “When you think about how passports and travel are handled, they are handled by the federal government. It would be better to have a unified program; I am really hoping the federal government takes leadership.” ....

A report to Grant County commissioners by members of the Grant County Community Health Council’s Emerging Infectious Diseases Task Force on Tuesday revealed more details about the effort to vaccinate eligible residents here against the novel coronavirus, including the fact that about 40 percent of those who have been offered the vaccine in Grant County have declined it.
“Those aren’t solid numbers, because some people want the vaccine” but are choosing to wait, said task force member and Silver City Emergency Manager Jeff Fell, who noted that among the 40 percent of people declining the vaccine were some who are eligible to receive it under the state’s phased guidelines but are currently disallowed under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The Grant County Commission heard a couple of presentations about public health and economic development during its work session Tuesday morning.
The first came from the Grant County Community Health Council’s Emerging Infectious Diseases Task Force, represented by Jeff Fell, the town of Silver City’s emergency manager, and Renee Despres.
Despres started with COVID-19 numbers for the county. 
“This data is for November 17 to November 30, so I can’t tell you what our positivity rate is here right now,” she said. “We’re testing pretty well compared to other counties in the state, but we still haven’t met the gating criteria of 5 percent of tests being positive. ....
