Work eyes PFAS in North Chelmsford public works site, water district

On the week of March 15, McKinlay said all requested monitoring wells were installed, with alternate wells installed at one spot that could not be accessed.
The investigation recently located structure including a concrete septic tank, former floor drains, and a tank full of oil which was pumped clean by an environmental service, McKinlay said.
Another drum was identified on the site, which McKinlay said should be removed shortly. 
The Department of Environmental Protection has given a deadline of Oct. 11 to determine the source of PFAS, and a remediation, McKinlay said.

Chelmsford panel reviews traffic safety measures

CHELMSFORD Safety reviews in the town center, North Chelmsford and at spots in the Acton Road vicinity are among the items the Traffic Committee is reviewing.
The board unanimously approved  the committee s recommendation for a stop sign for the intersection of Acton Road [Route 27], and Proctor Road. 
Current projects
a 25-mile-per-hour sign installed at Westford and Dalton Street;
Flashing stop signs in the town center, at Fishbones Restaurant;
a stop sign ahead warning at Locke Road;
a stop sign installed at Pilgrim and Graniteville Road;
a review of the Byam and Locust intersection.
New actions include cautionary signs for two-way traffic, to be placed at Byam and Locust roads. In progress is an evaluation of the consistency and adequacy of parking signs in the town center. ....

Work a 'go' to find PFAS source at North Chelmsford public works site


Steve Jahnle, assistant public works director, gave the board an update on the plans. 
Jahnle said the Department of Environmental Protection has approved plans for exploring the public works site. Jahnle said that the work needs to include discovering the site of a septic system on the premises.
We have no records, he said.  The Board of Health had no records. So, basically, they just want us to do the exploratory testing for the leaching field area, in accordance with what the DEP has required us to do.
Monitoring wells
Jahnle said Weston & Sampson, the licensed site professional doing the work, will mobilize a drilling contractor to prepare for installing monitoring wells. ....
