OASIS hosts virtual vigil to raise awareness against Asian hate


One month after the deadly shootings in Atlanta, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s OASIS hosted a virtual Stop Asian Hate Vigil to spread awareness about the increase of hate crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. 
Tamayo Zhou and Meena Pannirselvam, graduate students studying educational administration, were the main organizers of the event hosted by the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services, which took place Friday night via Zoom because of inclement weather. 
“We believe it’s an important matter that everyone needs to be a part of it,” Zhou said.  
Pannirselvam said the event is important now because not many people are taking initiative on what she says is a needed subject.  ....

ASUN to vote on bills supporting Sustain UNL events, discimination database


The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska will convene Wednesday for the final meeting of the 2020-21 ASUN administration and vote on 14 pieces of legislation. 
Jake Johnson, associate to the chancellor for Institutional Equity and Compliance, will speak to the senate regarding the concerns that have been raised regarding the sexual misconduct training. 
Government Bill 32, if passed, would officially state ASUN’s support for the implementation of a public database that would include every incident of racial bias, racism or discrimination reported to the university. This bill was supposed to be voted on last week, but was postponed for revisions. ....
