Lawmakers Rally Around Rand Paul's Call to End Federal Mask Mandate

GOP lawmakers are rallying behind Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) measure to end the federal mask mandate   which currently requires travelers to wear masks while using public transportation, including planes and trains   demanding to “put an end to the nanny state.”
On Wednesday, Paul introduced the Travel Mask Mandate Repeal Act of 2021, which would bar federal agencies from enforcing mask mandates on modes of public transportation. The bill’s text reads:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal agency shall impose any Federal requirement related to COVID-19 that an individual wear a face mask when utilizing any conveyance (as defined in 2 BAI21446 06S S.L.C. 1 section 70.1 of title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, or 2 any successor regulation) or transportation hub. ....

GOP Senators Introduce Resolution to End Federal Mask Mandate

Republican senators this week introduced a resolution aimed to urge the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to update the federal mask mandate requiring face coverings to be worn on modes of public transportation.
The resolution, offered by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Susan Collins (R-ME), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), calls on the Biden-led CDC to “review and update its guidance relating to mask-wearing in confined places.”
The resolution states that the Senate:
…encourages the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to review and update its guidance relating to mask-wearing in confined places to clarify that individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear a mask on public transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems. ....

Rick Scott claims Dems' 'political science' blocked his anti-mask mandate bill

Unanimous consent would have been required to move what Scott called a “pure commonsense” bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.
That did not come to pass because Democrats couldn’t help but follow their “political science,” Scott said.
“While we choose to listen to the science, all the Democrats care about is following their political science,” Scott said in a press release Wednesday evening.
The 
Stop Mandating Additional Requirements for Travel (SMART) Act was intended, Scott said on the Senate floor, to contest the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention decision “to buck the science when it comes to travel” by continuing to require masks on mass transit. ....
