Sudan's army and rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces signed a declaration that they would work towards a short-term ceasefire in further discussions in Jeddah.
Mediators pushed the sides to sign the declaration of principles on civilian protections in order to reduce tensions because of continuing disagreement on a wider ceasefire.
The conflict has created a humanitarian crisis, with about 100,000 people forced to flee with little food or water to neighboring countries, the United Nations said.
Funds will flow through agencies of the United Nations and the Red Cross, as well as non-governmental organizations, to provide basic food, water and health services.
Foreign countries have carried out their own evacuation effort, with an airlift from outside the capital and long road convoys to Port Sudan where ships have ferried them abroad.
