Southern Illinois University will commemorate October as LGBTQ+ History Month with the theme of "History, Community, Resilience."

Eduardo Chavez, the grandson of two legendary civil rights activists: César Chávez and Cuban revolutionary Max Lesnik, will be speaking and presenting his “Hailing César” documentary showcase on Oct. 11 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The presentation begins at 5 p.m. in the John C. Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library (this is a different time than previously announced). Everyone is welcome to attend at no cost.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has once again earned national recognition for its diversity and inclusivity. Campus Pride, a leading LGBTQ+ campus rating and information index, has honored the university among its 2022 “Best of the Best LGBTQ-Friendly Colleges and Universities.”

Renada Greer, a triple alumna and longtime student supporter and proponent of campus diversity and equity at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has been chosen as the new executive director of the SIU Student Multicultural Resource Center.
