1-vehicle rollover crash on Center Grove Road kills man Charles Bolinger, charles.bolinger@edwpub.net FacebookTwitterEmail According to Edwardsville Police Chief Jay Keeven, Vivek Patel, 30, of Edwardsville died in the crash. A witness told police that at or about 8:40 p.m., Patel was eastbound on Center Grove and passed him on the left, driving at a high rate of speed then lost control about 20 feet east of Sugar Creek Lane. The black 2012 Honda Accord left the north side of the roadway, struck a culvert, Keeven said, and rolled several times, ejecting Patel in the process. The vehicle’s remains came to rest on the edge of Metro-East Lutheran High School’s property. Cross Towing later hauled it away. ....
02/08/21 A North Liberty woman was arrested last week after two separate incidents where she’s accused of stealing nearly $2900 in merchandise from a Coralville store. The first incident allegedly took place on February 1 st at the Von Maur store on the River Landing. 26-year old Zhane Ball of Sugar Creek Lane was seen on surveillance video late that morning with a co-defendant selecting items to steal. Store personnel say she stole $1290 in merchandise that day. Then on the afternoon of the 5 th, Ball returned to the store with a juvenile. Police say Ball stayed in the parking lot with the vehicle running while the juvenile concealed handbags in a large bag and exited the store without paying. The juvenile was allegedly seen getting into Ball’s car and taking off before being stopped by an assisting agency. The value of the merchandise taken in that incident is believed to be nearly $1600. ....
2/6/21 A North Liberty woman faces charges that she barged into a Coralville apartment and sprayed the residents, including a four-year-old child, with pepper spray. 26-year-old Zhane Ball of Sugar Creek Lane was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7pm Friday. Coralville Police were called to an apartment on Boston Way just after 9:15 Wednesday night for a fight in progress after Ball allegedly showed up to fight the cousin of one of the victims. Witnesses say Ball knocked on the apartment door trying to incite a confrontation, but nobody answered. After a while, the occupants believed Ball had left, so one woman left the apartment. When she walked out, Ball allegedly stepped inside the door and began indiscriminately discharging pepper spray. One occupant, the ex-boyfriend of the woman who walked outside, was hit directly in the face. The man’s four-year-old daughter was also within reach of the spray radius. ....
1/2/21 Using an ATV to do doughnuts in the parking lot of a downtown Iowa City convenience store has led to a North Liberty man’s arrest. Iowa City Police say 26-year-old Byron Yordy of Sugar Creek Lane was observed using a four-wheeler to do doughnuts in the Kum & Go parking lot on East Burlington Street at 8:15pm on New Year’s Eve. Investigators say Yordy admitted to driving to Kum & Go on public roadways to do doughnuts. According to police, Yordy showed multiple signs of impairment, smelled of ingested alcohol and admitted to having drinks earlier in the night. Yordy allegedly told officers he felt he would pass breath tests, but he refused to take them. Police also learned that Yordy is barred from driving from April of 2018 to April of 2022. ....
