Summer fun coming for the Central-Texas area

Although rainy weather is still in the forecast this week, there are still plenty of events planned. Summer reading programs, barbecues, live music, shopping, museum events, carnivals, and much more are happening to gear up for summer. The Up in Smoke Shivaree BBQ Cook Off will begin at noon June 4 and 5 at The Junction, 1216 N. Highway 36, Gatesville. Cooks with brisket, chicken, and rib recipes will compete in the contest. The Harker Heights Spring Fest will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 at Carl Levin Park, 400 Millers Crossing. This free event will feature family-friendly activities, vendors, artists, and a duck race. Visitors can “adopt” a duck for the race and the participant with the “adopted” duck that wins will get a cash prize. Stonetree Golf Club, 1600 Stonetree Drive, Killeen, is hosting the Stonetree Classic Tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. April 2. This event will include two-person teams, 27 holes, and three formats (Scramble, Best Ball, and Alternate Shot).
