They say hospitals in the county are asking them to do too much and not offering enough. Ktvu james torres explains how the two sides got to this point. Nearly 4000 nurses finished their shift early this morning and immediately took to the picket lines. Its all about ensuring Patient Safety and nurse safety. Strikes happening at a total of three area hospitals run by the professional registered nurses association. They say theyve not had a contract with Santa Clara County in months. Theyre demanding improvements in staffing, keeping nurses to just one hospital and improved security to prevent workplace violence. I was punched in the face by a patient simply because they were hungry and were upset that they couldnt eat anything, but it was doctors order because they were going to go in for surgery.
