IRVING, Texas – Kansas has placed 14 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team as announced by the conference Thursday. A total of 13 Jayhawks were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including two players – Hailey Reed and Tarin Travieso – who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is the most student-athletes Kansas softball has placed on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams since the award began in 1996. KU placed 13 student-athletes on the first team with Shelby Gayre (Exercise Science), Tatum Goff (Community Health), Haleigh Harper (Biology), Madison Hirsch (Mechanical Engineering), Lexy Mills (Business Accounting), Macy Omli (Business Accounting), Sydnee Ramsey (Liberal Arts & Sciences), Reed (Business Administration), Peyton Renzi (Community Health), Jordan Richards (Business Administration), Miranda Rodriguez (Sport Management), Travieso (Exercise Science) and Morgyn Wynne (Journalism) all earning the honor. Hannah Todd (Liberal Arts & Sciences) garnered second team recognition. Gayre and Travieso were named to the team for the third time in their careers and Omli, Rodriguez and Wynne earned the honor for the second time.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – In a heartfelt game that played host to honoring two different senior classes, Kansas softball dropped a seven inning battle to Iowa State, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark. With the loss the Jayhawks fall to 22-25 on the season and 2-15 in Big 12. Iowa State improves to 30-19 overall and 5-12 in the Big 12. Ashlyn Anderson led the Jayhawks from the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Macy Omli finished 2-for-2 with one run, and Morgyn Wynne, Madison Hirsch and Angela Price each tallied a single hit. The Jayhawks started the game swinging to be the first team to get a run across that began after Anderson hit a double into left field. Omli got on base off a walk that moved Anderson to third. As Omli stole second, Anderon stole home to get KU on the board. Kansas added one more run after Hirsch hit a single into center to score Omli. After one, KU led 2-0.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas softball team (22-23, 2-13 Big 12) will wrap-up regular-season action this weekend hosting Iowa State (28-19, 3-12 Big 12) at Arrocha Ballpark. The three-game series is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 7 at 6 p.m. Action continues on Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m., before concluding on Sunday, May 9 at noon. The weekend’s games will be available to watch on the Big 12 NOW on ESPN+. Leif Lesic will be on the call doing play-by-play all weekend. He will be joined by Jill Dorsey Hall on Friday and Saturday. WACO, Texas – Sophomore Ashlyn Anderson recorded a seventh-inning home run but Kansas softball ultimately dropped the series opener to Baylor at Getterman Stadium on Friday night, 7-1. With the loss, the Jayhawks fall to 22-21 overall and 2-11 in the Big 12, as Baylor improves to 25-15 on the season and 6-6 in the Big 12. Baylor was able to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a single run scored. Kansas looked to level the score in the top of the third after Tarin Travieso and Haleigh Harper hit back-to-back singles with only one out. Despite getting runners on, KU wasn’t able to get anyone home.

AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball tallied a run in each game but weren’t able to stop the Longhorn’s bats as KU dropped two games to No. 9 Texas on Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The Jayhawks battled in the first game to an 8-1 loss, before dropping the second game, 10-1. With the two losses, Kansas falls to 22-19 overall and 2-9 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 34-6 and 8-3 in Big 12 play. Game One – Lost 8-1 The Jayhawks jumped ahead early after Brittany Jackson hit a single through the right side. Macy Omli advanced her to second with a sac bunt, and Morgyn Wynne took first base after being hit by a pitch with only one out. Shelby Gayre battled through six pitches before sending the seventh into left field for a RBI single scoring Jackson.

Following the loss, Kansas falls to 22-20 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 35-6 and 9-3 in Big 12 play. Macy Omli led the Jayhawks going 2-for-4 from the plate and brought in a career-high four RBIs. Texas got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a single run crossing home but KU struck back quick.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – An all-around game from Kansas led to a 4-3 upset over No. 18 Missouri on Tuesday evening inside the Mizzou Softball Stadium. From a solo home run via Ashlyn Anderson to precision pitching from starter Hailey Reed and the perfect save from Kasey Hamilton, the Jayhawks battled to victory over their second ranked opponent of the 2020-21 season. With today’s win, Kansas improves to 20-15 overall. Missouri now sits at double digit losses at 29-10. This is the first win for the Jayhawks over Mizzou since April 1, 2009 when KU took down the Tigers 4-1 in Lawrence. Reed commenced the game in the circle for the Jayhawks and notched the win to garner her seventh win of the season after going 5.1 innings. Hamilton pitched the final 1.2 innings and earned her second save this season.
