Lawmakers approved a package of tax changes submitted by the government on Tuesday. The law passed with 116 votes in support, 47 against and 7 abstentions.
This all feels familiar, somehow. A government less than a year away from a general election it’s likely to lose, and a chancellor pulling rabbits from a hat in a last-ditch effort to please a grumbling audience. And, amid the misdirection, a great big trap for the opposition.
