MOE should turn PPDs into One Stop Centres

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Parents-Teacher Associations Consultative Council (PIBGN) has suggested that the Ministry of Education (MOE) to turn district education offices (PPDs) into ‘one stop centres’ in addressing problems related to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) and DidikTV KPM.
PIBGN president, Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Ali Hasan said that it was due to PPDs being the best medium to communicate with parents who face complications, and bring their problems to the authorities immediately.
“I suggest that the MOE creates a hotline managed by dedicated staff who are specifically assigned to address any of these matters (PdPR and DidikTV) at the district level, rather than being centralised at the state or national level.

Relief as schools reopen

Relief as schools reopen
02 Mar 2021 / 10:41 H.
KUALA
LUMPUR: While the sentiment has been largely negative on social media, many parents and students are relieved that schools have finally reopened.
Even education experts have welcomed the move, describing it as long overdue, pointing out that face-to-face learning is always more efficient.
Pre-schoolers and pupils in Year One and Two were in class for the new school year yesterday. Those in Year Three to Six will resume face-to-face learning in class on Monday.
For those in secondary school, classes will resume on April 5 in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, and on the following day in other states as well as the three federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

KUALA
LUMPUR: The reopening of schools was hotly debated online after the Education Ministry (MOE) announced physical classroom sessions will take place effective March 1.
Social media platforms were inundated with responses, reactions and queries by many, especially parents.
A poll carried out by Bernama on its official Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages offered netizens the opportunity to state their views and suggestions following the ministry’s latest announcement.
Viewers were asked to pick whether they felt ‘relieved’, ‘worried’ or ‘unsure’ about it.
Of the 905 who voted on Twitter, 43.2% were ‘worried’, while 33% were ‘unsure’ and only 23.8% felt ‘relieved’ about school reopening.

DidikTV aims to help home-based learning

KUALA LUMPUR: The introduction of TV Pendidikan’s special channel known as DidikTV KPM, will to some extent help solve the problems faced in the implementation of home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) classes.
National Parents-Teacher Associations Consultative Council (PIBGN) president Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ali Hassan said this included the issue of devices and Internet access faced by students, especially in rural areas.
“Although it is a bit slow to implement and should have been done earlier, in the end, it will benefit the people as assistance to PdPR and education as a whole.
“The plan for the Prime Minister to officially launch the channel on the first day of its broadcast also shows a sign that the country is very concerned about education, ” he said yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur: It has been almost a year since Covid-19 hit the country and education is one of the sectors that needs a holistic change involving the aspects of the examination and certification system, especially Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), as a student assessment method.
Over 400,445 candidates for SPM 2020 were affected in terms of their learning preparation and were emotionally distraught when the examination which was supposed to be held in November last year had to be postponed to Feb 22.
Introduced in 1964, SPM, as the passport to tertiary studies has since matured but many are of the view that the existing student assessment system needs to change according to current developments.
