Fatal crash in Opotiki '); } else { // } One person has died following a crash involving a motorbike and a car in Opotiki this evening. The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Bridge Street and Goring Street, was reported to Police at 5.50pm. "The motorbike rider was critically injured and medical attention was provided, however, sadly, they  died at the scene," says a Police spokesperson. The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and an investigation into the circumstances is underway. The intersection will be closed while a scene examination takes place....

I shared the story of Austin Rickard – a man who became a Heart Angel at the age of 29. I shared the story of Riley Jones – a young girl who continues to inspire her family every day. I shared the story of Maddie Fisher – a teenage Heart Warrior living with CHD and chron’s disease. Today, I’d like to introduce you to Spencer Owsiany. A 1-year old Heart Warrior whose journey with CHD is just getting started.

WTMJ Cares: When a Child Becomes Your Inspiration I type this story with a heavy heart. Earlier this week, Mark Kassab, a freshman at Brookfield Central High, died in his sleep. According to a condolence announcement, Kassab passed from an apparent previously undiagnosed congenital heart disease. He was 14. CHD doesn’t discriminate. Others are uplifting. Over the next two weeks, I will share stories of families affected by CHD. We begin with a story of how a child’s condition inspired a Heart Mom to devote a portion of her life to easing the burden of families in a similar situation.
