On these, these mobile launch musudan missiles. if one of these takes off, everything changes very, very quickly. general, come on over here and let s bring if the map and talk about this some. if there is a launch, you say the very first thing would be some ak son by a satellite. why? tom, this satellite is going to pick up the infrastructure, the i.r. signature coming off the mobile launcher. instantaneously, it will send messages to the tracking system. so we can track the telemetry of that missile. it involves units at sea, on land, in the air, everywhere, to hone in on this thing, right? exactly correct. from the ground, from the sea, from the air. totally integrated. tracking the missile. and the key objective there is to make sure it s not threatening a u.s. or allied resource in the region. it s worth noting this is not an easy task. a missile like this would be traveling at thousands of miles an hour. it s nothing at all like an airplane. no, it s not. this technolog ....

Another distance. and someone said that the monkey parachuted safely with the last page of the rocket. but it is relevant. if you get something living in space, the atmosphere s fine, they can breathe, how long before they get a man in flight if that s true? if it s even their goal. obviously, we all believe and know why they are developing this technology, it s a warhead payload. so i don t know that their goal is a manned program. but if they can put a monkey in space, i suppose a man is just behind. here s a dumb question. it says if don t we know? don t we have drones and satellites and spy satellites on them? yeah, dwrea. we have a lot of telemetry on this, whether or not that made it to 75 miles. the only thing we have is the iranians saying this is what they did and they have a monkey. ....

On the good news side, the other eight engines continued to win, and the dragon capsule got to orbit. so you like a rocket like this that has the robustness, the ability to withstand failure and still make it to orbit. jon: so i guess, in fact, the payload is being delivered to the international space station just as intended. that s all good news, but is this going to slow down this private space venture? well, it ll probably slow it down for a couple of months perhaps before the next launch. they ve got to diagnose this problem, look at the telemetry from the engine, test fire some engines on the ground, nasa will have to approve the information and the investigation and the fix. this is not unknown, the shuttle lost one engine on one of its 135 missions, so we know how to deal with engine failures, and i hope that this design will get some more experience under its ....

landings in history. but for now, all eyes on this. the very first video of the curiosity landing, released today. the grainy video was shot onboard moments before touching down. john zarrella and chad myers join me now for more. so, john, let s start with you. you have been following the story very closely and are live at nasa s jetropulsion laboratory in california. tell us about this new veo and what exactly are we seeing? reporter: well, in fact, zoraida, what we re seeing in this video are images taking from the descent camera, made by space industries down in san diego. and the video shows the curiosity rover as it is descending down through the atmosphere to the touchdown on mars. it was 297 images all put together into one continuous short video. and then there was the haz cam image. they finally did get a higher resolution picture which shows mt. sharp in the distance. and that mt. sharp is, of course, critical what they are hoping to do is get over to mt. sh ....

is zero room for error. about 17 minutes from now, if all goes as planned, the rover will touchdown on the martian surface. but it takes 14 minutes for a signal to travel from mars to earth, so best case scenario, confirmation will come in about 31 minutes. we expect pictures around 2 a.m. eastern. now, joining us from the laboratory in california. in moscow r where russian space officials are closely following the development and science correspondent david brodie joins us from edge water, new jersey. but first we will go to john zarrella there live in pasadena. john, we are about to enter the period that officials are calling seven minutes of terror, where they will not know if curiosity is alive or dead. that s exactly right, john. this is it. they ve all been using the olympic term that they have to stick this landing. as you pointed out, that this maneuver to entering the atmosphere of mars, traveling at 13,200 miles an hour, in less than ten minutes from now, th ....
