This is the 108th summer meeting of the National Governors associati association and taking place with the backdrop of a lot of serious issues across the nation and world and of course two major Party Conventions taking place in the next couple weeks. I am happy to introduce the chairman of the National Governors association from utah, governor branstad and we have the vice chairman, governor mcauliffe from virginia and the host, the longest serving governor in the mystery of the United States terry branstad. We were there this morning when governor branstad announced the creation of the Wrongful Conviction division to be run by the state Public Defenders Office. The focus of the new division will be to identify potential cases involving inmates who have been wrongfully convicted, as well as to pursue available legal remedies. Gov. Branstad this division of the Public Defenders Office will take the lead to move forward with postconviction relief, to see that the innocent people that may have been convicted are represented, and they get their day in court. Mollie the fbi recently admitted serious errors in cases involving hair comparision analysis. The new division will work to determine if similar errors have occurred in cases here in iowa.
