(Joe Shine | For The Jersey Journal)Joe Shine | For The Jersey Journ Facebook Share Jersey City is fighting violent crime with a multi-pronged strategy, but the state’s second largest city could use some help from judges and the criminal court system, Public Safety Director James Shea says. “One homicide victim had 4 previous gun arrests, another one had two previous gun arrests,” Shea said during an interview about the city’s homicide rate in 2020. “The next one had three robbery arrests; the next one had three gun arrests and a murder arrest.”
Hudson Reporter × Aiesha McFadden, a 36- year-old mother of four, was shot and killed on Dec. 4. The Jersey City community is rallying to support the loved ones of a local mother who was shot and killed while walking home earlier this month. On Dec. 4 Jersey City Public School worker and mother of four Aieshia McFadden was assaulted and shot and killed in front of her daughter on Martin Luther King Junior Drive. She was 36 years old. Now, an online Facebook fundraiser, started by Tiffany Critten, has circulated throughout the community successfully raising more than $20,000 of the $50,000 goal through the donations of 429 people this week.

At around 8:30pm Esha was inappropriately touched and she was obviously offended and made it known,” the Facebook description says. “The harasser then shot Esha twice right in front of her daughter who stayed with her until she was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center. Esha’s children will have to live with this memory for the rest of their lives, meaning they need therapy. Dazania, Esha’s oldest daughter—a college student—will now have to raise her siblings, the youngest of them 8 years old.”
Family, friends mourn loss of ‘loving’ mother of 4, who was fatally shot on Jersey City street Updated Dec 13, 2020; JERSEY CITY — About two weeks before the fatal shooting of Aieshia McFadden, she was talking to her cousin, Damon Critten, about a family member’s wedding that’s happening next year. Critten said he and McFadden loved to party and have fun together, so next year was something they looked forward to. Family, friends and colleagues attended the 36-year-old’s funeral on Sunday. Though family said it was a rough day, they said they reflected on the loving, hardworking and funny woman that McFadden was.

Jersey City fatal shooting under investigation The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating a Dec. 10 fatal shooting. On Dec. 10, Jersey City police officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Wilkinson Ave., where they found an unconscious 35-year-old Jersey City man, later identified as Niles Holmes, with apparent multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. A Jersey city man, 24, sustained two graze wounds to the arm. No arrests have been made at this time.
