The end result will be a renovated, extended and radically different public plaza, wrapping around the north end of the CityArts building on Magnolia Street. Fundraising for the project is already underway, with the recent Ford-ify the Arts celebration earlier this month. As spotted by WDW News Today, the plug was pulled suddenly on the Hall last night, with little fanfare besides a note about refurbishment going up on the Walt Disney World website (which, as we write this, refuses to load). Orlando Sentinel that the closure was due to updating the attraction to add a Joe Biden animatronic figure and, safe to say, update the current narrative flow of the show. ....

But in California, where the healthcare system has been overwhelmed by the pandemic, theme parks have essentially been shut down since March. With the death rate in the region doubling and officials having to lift air quality limits in order to ensure crematoriums can keep up with COVID-related deaths, it’s clear Disneyland won’t be reopening anytime soon. After multiple extensions, the resort made the unprecedented move last week to shut down the current annual passholder program. ....

For Disney, this has put a huge wrinkle in plans for the biggest celebration in Walt Disney World’s history. The 50th Anniversary celebration was meant to feature dozens of new and updated attractions in a bid to fill every hotel room for the entire 18-month-long celebration. The plans have been scaled back, and the celebration, which was expected to launch this spring, has been postponed until the official anniversary in October.
