(Olivia MN-) A Morton man was sentenced Tuesday to 5 years probation and 45 days in jail for pointing a loaded automatic weapon at a Renville County Deputy last year.

James Leroy Sanborn, 86, died after being hospitalized March 3. Sanborn pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography in Chippewa County District Court in January and was scheduled to be sentenced on March 6. Sanborn's attorney notified the court of Sanborn's death on March 28.

Keith Alan Powelson, 46, will serve prison time after a jury found him guilty on four charges of second-degree assault. Powelson was charged after he told a Lac qui Parle County sheriff's deputy that he fired a single shotgun shell in the air to grab a man's attention after a verbal dispute.

Kenneth Lee McCaig, 46, of Tracy, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for possessing ammunition while he was prohibited from doing so due to a previous conviction.
