Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned as Sri Lankan Prime Minister on Monday, following which President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said he will appoint a new Prime Minister and a young Cabinet this week.
The new prime minister and cabinet will command a majority in the 225-seat parliament, Rajapaksa said.
